Timau, Kenya
Timau Orphanage – Timau, Kenya
This home was established in January 2007 in the mountains of Kenya. Currently there are 28 very grateful boys who stay here. Almost every child has lost his parents to the AIDS epidemic. HALO’s goal is to provide full support to the children of the Timau Home, including food, water, shelter, clothing, eduction, art therapy, caretakers and a brighter future. With the help of The Woodland Foundation, we are able to meet these needs and provide vocational scholarships for the children once they are 18 years old. Vocational training will provide the children the tools they need to become contributing members of their communities. Featured Champion – Samson
Samson and his brother Wilson were admitted to the HALO Timau home in September 2008. His single mother died of AIDS. Samson was very malnourished when he came to the home and started introducing himself as “Jamba Nene,” which means “Big Hero.” He used this name because he wanted to be seen as a big kid so he could eat as much as possible when they were serving food.
