Lirio de Los Valles – Playas, Mexico
This was the first HALO-supported orphanage, and we have had a relationship with this home for more than 5 years. HALO provides the children of this home with tuition for education, school uniforms, art therapy and other needs. This orphanage houses anywhere from 100 to 110 children each year from the streets of Tijuana.
A Letter from Orphanage Director, Sara Neff
The HALO program was established 5 years ago in our orphanage. Since then, we include art in the home. The art therapy that HALO helps children of all ages to release anger, stress, and other negative emotions that they tend to keep inside. When those emotions are properly managed, children are healthier and more secure.
I have had the privilege of working with the HALO program for 5 years, and I was amazed to see how quickly and positively the children in our home responded to the HALO art activities. It was so rewarding to experience the excitement and eagerness that the children displayed when we gave them their first brush and bottle of paint. Their art work is fantastic, and the HALO family is our family!
Now we do all sorts of projects with art. If we need to work on self -esteem, we use art. If we want the kids work as a team, we have the children paint a banner. If the kids need to express a need or a feeling, we give them the tools to do so. Our spiritual therapies for the children also include art.
There are many stories of success with children who started painting through the HALO program at our orphanage. Cristina was raised here, studied art, and now works for the orphanage teaching little girls to paint and draw.
Thank you for your support, HALO!
