The Birth of HALO Denver

HALO Denver Director Nikki Cady came to HALO in 2008 with a mission to meet the most urgent HALO need. At that time, the greatest need was to provide a home for girls living on the streets of Kampala, Uganda, who were involved in and at risk of prostitution. Nikki took this project on as her own and started a branch in Denver to raise awareness, involvement, and funding. The HALO Girls Home was opened December 2008 in Kampala, Uganda and has provided a safe haven to girls in situations beyond our imaginations. Because of Nikki Cady and HALO ambassadors in Denver, these 15 girls are able to live a life without fear and do not have to worry about where they will get the money to pay for their school fees. In 2009, HALO Denver started facilitating art therapy programs with local homeless shelters in the Denver area. HALO Denver has also opened The HALO Center for Youth, which is geared toward providing at-risk youth in and around the Denver area with art therapy and vocational training. It took one person for HALO to be born, one write and develop programs, another to donate, one more to start a branch in another town, one to serve as an international HALO ambassador, one to volunteer at an event, one to serve in U.S. residential homes.  Each one makes HALO grow.
